Carolina Security’s approach to security protection stems from the vision of its founding members: the husband and wife team of Ken and Vanessa Cagle.
Growing up in the Greenville, SC area, Ken and Vanessa acquired early a set of “down home” family values emphasizing the importance of friends and faithfulness, which form the foundation of Carolina’s business practices to this day.
Ken and Vanessa grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, where they acquired strong family values of friendship and faithfulness. These principles have become the cornerstone of our company philosophy.
Ken’s Early Inspiration
As a kid, Ken spent hours at his grandma’s neighborhood store in Greenville’s City View neighborhood, learning firsthand how to “treat customers right.” Inspired by her example, five-year-old Ken would pile a bunch of grandma’s homey knick-knacks into his little red wagon and toddle off to sell them door-to-door.
The Turning Point
Years later, he stopped by the store after a long day at school to find thieves had broken into her shop, making off with $5,000 worth of merchandise. Fortunately, Ken was studying to become an electrician, and he immediately put his newfound electrical skills to good use: combining some relays, a capacitor, siren, and a key switch, Ken built his first alarm—alone and by hand—to protect his grandmother’s store.
Gaining Experience in the Industry
After graduation, Ken got a job with one of the country’s most successful independently-owned alarm companies. Starting from the bottom, Ken gained invaluable experience in the unglamorous life of pulling alarm wires through roasting hot attics and bug-filled crawlspaces.
A Bold Decision
Ken wanted to set the same kind of high standards his grandmother had set for her store, the same high standards he had set for his branch office. He just couldn’t follow the “corner-cutting” approach of that other company. He wanted to be able to take pride in his work, to know he was giving people top-grade, no-compromise protection.
Vanessa’s Contribution
Standing beside him the whole way, Vanessa recognized that running an alarm company demanded 100% commitment, so she gave up her career as a highly successful real estate broker to tackle the back-office tasks like answering phones and balancing the books.
Building a Strong Foundation
Now able to parlay the foundational skills learned at his grandma’s store and as an alarm professional, Ken could—as owner and president of his own independent security company—train, lead, and motivate teams of technicians to his exacting standards of technical skill and customer service..
Combining Strengths
Joining Ken’s tech and sales skills with Vanessa’s business acumen, the company began to grow, providing quality protection with individualized customer service. And those two kids from City View have been protecting the Carolinas ever since.
